According to the World Health Organization (WHO) about 15% of the world's population lives with some form of disability, of whom 2-4% experience significant difficulties in functioning. The global disability prevalence is higher than previous WHO estimates, which date from the 1970s and suggested a figure of around 10%. This global estimate for disability is on the rise due to population aging and the rapid spread of chronic diseases, as well as improvements in the methodologies used to measure disability.
Many of these individuals and their families live in poverty, pain, and despair. To make matters worse poor people are more likely to become disabled. Yet Jesus so clearly stated in the Gospel of John 10:10 that He came that the peoples of this world might have life and have it abundantly. Operation Go Quickly is committed to bringing this Good News and practical assistance to the impaired worldwide in a timely manner.
Through the story He told in Luke 14 :15-24, Jesus gave clear instructions to quickly reach out first to the poor. No doubt knowing there was a strong connection between disabilities and poverty, Jesus mentioned specific disability groups that should be served. Operation Go Quickly acknowledges that for every person with a disability, there are several friends and family members sensitive to the issues of inclusion. These people also need products and services and will also appreciate disability awareness.
How is Operation Go Quickly Helping?
Operation Go Quickly outreach efforts attempt to advocate for all areas of practical needs concerning people with impairments and their families. For example many lack even basic housing much less handicapped accessible dwellings. We advocate for both inclusion and accessibility to housing, churches and community structures.
Operation Go Quickly actively cooperates with other organizations to promote partnerships, education and training, positive relationships with governments, and international disability networks.
