The Haitian amputee soccer team arrived in Irvine, California on Thursday evening at 10pm. The team was struggling to find a place to stay however the Irvine Trinity Lutheran Church graciously opened their doors to host the team for the week.
On Friday morning, the team arrived to Orange County Great Park to observe the Orange County Soccer Club practice. After 20 minutes of watching, the Haitian team began warming up for a light practice ahead of their game against the USA on Saturday afternoon at 12:30pm (Pacific Time Zone). However a huge surprise awaited them. The coach of the Orange County SC agreed to scrimmage the Haitian amputee soccer team for 10 minutes.
The professional soccer players were allowed to only use their non-dominant foot to pass and shoot. The professional players of Orange County were astonished by the raw talent that the Haitians possessed. On Saturday evening at 5pm (Pacific Time Zone) Orange County SC of the USL division will be taking on the Vancouver White Caps of the Major League Soccer.
Match Preview – OC vs. VAN
During the halftime show the United States amputee soccer team will be showcasing an exhibition with the Haitian amputee soccer team to raise awareness of amputee soccer in America as well as share the testimonies of the Haitians. The team will be collecting old soccer cleats, jerseys, shorts and socks to help the Haitians through their tour. Any monetary donations can be directed to the Operation Go Quickly website.
